I went with several lab groups hiking around the Grand St. Bernard Pass (yes, where the dogs with the kegs of alcohol are from).
Anyway, the weather always had a few clouds and things looked very atmospheric that high up (we started over 2000m)
On the way up we saw some chamois and there were even some babies. I've never seen these animals in the wild before so it was pretty neat!
The big male stood on the rocks above us and watched our progress.
We walked beside a glacier on top of the moraine so there was a bit of exposure.
It was an ambitious hike for such a diverse group.
And the glacier was very lovely. You can even hike across it and stay at a hut.
We left the glacier to go up to the col. It was pretty steep, here is the less steep bottom section but as we came up to the top you were almost standing above the other hikers.
The views were very dramatic and pretty.
And slowly we made our way back.
It was certainly very pretty there.
And yes, cows lower down and also lots of sheep poop. Welcome to the alps!
