In addition to our fantastic reception in Switzerland, we also had a wedding reception in Canada with all the family, many whom I haven't seen in years! It was fantastic to see everyone in the hall in Kinkora.
To start the evening my cousin 'walked' us into the wedding reception hall with his Swiss cowbells. I was told that they tried to put them on the cows here in Canada, but since they haven't had them since they were calves the cows hated them! They would run around and generally be very upset and at the end of the day the bell would be somewhere in the field. I have no idea how a cow would get out of a bell but apparently it is possible!
Once we were in the hall we first had to work for our dinner! There was a log set up and we had to show how we could work together as a couple and saw a piece off. It went really well actually, but pretty warm work in all those dress layers!
Once dinner started, the glass tinking began! In Canada, when you tink on the glasses with your fork, the wedding couple is supposed to kiss, and they can do it all dinner long! So usually you have a game prepared. We had something prepared in Switzerland (where people didn't tink on glasses at all), but in Canada we said that if you wanted a kiss you had to cut the log. That got a lot of people interested! There were competitions and couples trying all dinner long as the entertainment.
After dinner came the dancing, with fantastic music from a local band which consisted of one of my elementary school teachers, one of my high school teachers, and a man I played with in the city band! They were great, everyone had a lot of fun dancing the whole evening!
