To celebrate the start of summer we spent a few days at our friend Marilyn's cottage up near the Big Chute and in the Canadian shield. The cottage was on the Trent-Severn Waterway that connects the Great Lakes while bypassing the Niagara Falls and is quite popular for boaters.
Apparently we had missed the black fly season but there were still mosquitoes and deer flies (with nasty bites) around. We also saw tons and tons of dragonflies.
The cottage was right on the river and it was beautiful to swim in (Lily and I would watch). We also took the canoe out for a ride and saw two loons on a nearby inlet.
For one day we walked to the nearby Big Chute. There is a train car on a special track, instead of a more typical lock, which moves boats past big rapids. We were lucky that there were some boats being moved when we came to look.
At night we had a campfire and enjoyed S'mores. Lily experienced her first campfire, and also her first tooth broke through the gum.
