It was a busy weekend with fantastic weather. On Saturday we took the train to Geneva for a family lunch (5 hour train, 4 hour lunch) then took the train back (another 5 hours). We crossed the entire country. In Canada this wouldn't get you out of the province (ok, maybe, depending on traffic).
We took advantage of the awesome weather on the second day and did our first attempt of ski touring. So far all winter the risk has been either too high, or we have been busy, or the weather was bad. But finally we made it. It was an easy peak (for other people), 950m up and 15km in total. I however, was super tired.
We started walking up the road carrying the skis, and then eventually the snow stuck around on the road so we continued to skin up.
Once we got out of the trees then it got more difficult, steep, sunny and beautiful. We made it to the peak before noon and enjoyed the sun and the view.
Then we started down (on the easier side), it wasn't very steep but there were trees and rocks everywhere because a lot of snow has melted. There were no tracks to follow and we didn't know where we were going so it was slow going.
However, we got to the bottom (well, we walked the last part) and then went onto the cross country ski track and skied out the valley back to our car.
